Stay Ahead of Weeds This Summer!

Summer in Minnesota is beautiful—but it’s also prime time for weeds. With warm weather and long days, unwanted plants can take over your garden beds, lawn, and landscaping fast. At Royal Landscaping, we know how frustrating that can be. Here are some smart, simple ways to stay ahead of weeds this season.
Weed Early
The best time to weed is in the early morning or evening, when the soil is soft and the sun isn’t beating down. Weeding after a rain makes it even easier to pull the whole root—especially for tough weeds like thistle or creeping Charlie.
Use Mulch to Block Growth
A 2–3 inch layer of mulch around plants and garden beds blocks sunlight, smothers weed seeds, and helps keep moisture in the soil. It looks great and cuts down on future weeding time.
Don’t Let Them Bloom
If you see a weed starting to flower, pull it immediately. Once weeds go to seed, they can spread quickly and come back even stronger next year.
Keep Your Lawn Healthy
A thick, healthy lawn helps choke out weeds before they can take root. Mow high (about 3 inches), water deeply once or twice a week, and avoid over-fertilizing in peak heat.
